Field Report: “As you may know, I've been working at Kinnucan's in Tuscaloosa for most of this school year. The other night when I was working a shift, Alabama Football player Corey Reamer came in and was looking at the MKs. After walking up to him and asking if he'd tried a pair, he proceeded to tell how much he loved the product! I told him we were going to be receiving the new Snake River collection this week and he is going to come pick up a pair soon! So needless to say, I've got a new reason why people should buy MKs...National Champions wear Mountain Khakis! Have a great weekend and I hope all is well." -Adam

    • I am a fishing guide and I live in Granite Creek Pants. They dry quick, are super durable and the pockets are perfect. I especially like the zip pockets for securing valuables. My phone fits easily in the cargo pocket. I have worn them for a couple of years and gave away all my other fishing pants.

    • Great for standing in a creek, but not climbing granite.

    • I've owned many pairs of technical pants: Propper, Patagonia, Prana, Vertx, and misc. BDU trousers. I was excited to get a pair of the Granite Creek Pants because several friends and family members had high praise for the pants.

I received my pair a couple of weeks ago (at the same time I received a pair of Alpine Utility Pants) and they looked great. Good stitching, color, material, appearance. When I put them on they fit great in the waist and length. I'm 5'9", 185lbs and the 32/32 were perfect. The length was a bit long for my frame but I wear Danner's often so I wanted them to cover my ankles during any kind of movement.

Then I put them to the flex/stretch/movement test. I quickly realized that these pants aren't cut for strenuous movement or flexibility. Pulling my legs up to traverse an obstacle was extremely tight; there was a lot of resistance in the cut of the legs and the fabric itself when trying to get over a medium sized obstacle, such as a three foot wall or stack of wood. It was also difficult to climb anything because of the immobility of the pants; a ladder with closely placed rungs was okay but high-stepping on a rock surface for a small feature around my knee was difficult.

My expectations were high for these pants, especially when you factor in the price for these technical pants. Maybe I expected too much. They're great if you're static and want to look good in a coffee shop or while walking your dog. But if you expect to run an obstacle course or want to out run your buddy while trying to out run a bear...you better be wearing a different pair of pants.

One other note...the cargo pocket is unusable. Even when I put my thin bar-style phone in the pocket it presses against my thigh and compounds the already uncomfortable movement of the legs. By the way, I'm not a big guy with enormous iron-pumping thighs. I'm an avid runner with an athletic build and generally any pair of pants off of a rack will fit me.

All-in-all the pants are well made and good looking. Granted, they might stand up to anything but they won't elevate me to the next level.

    • I recently had the pleasure of getting sent to Saudi Arabia for work for several weeks. I knew for sure I would be packing my Granite Creek pants but I didn't know that they would end up being the only pants I would wear. In the extreme heat these pants were so lightweight and cool I don't know what I would have done without them. Even despite some rigorous work they held up too! I absolutely love them and refuse to wear anythign else during the summer!

    • Great Pant
    • 5 out of 5 Bison
    • These pants are great for fishing. Comfortable in a boat all day and dry fast. They look great and function even better. I recently wore them in lieu of waders on a warm day and I was very impressed with their ability to dry within minutes of stepping out of the water.

    • The best all around pair of pants
    • 5 out of 5 Bison
    • I'm not a big fan of wearing shorts unless I'm at the beach or coaching baseball; in fact, I would rather wear pants even in the hot Georgia summers. These pants are the perfect pants for anytime of year. I wear my OMP's at work training bird dogs and then when I get done each day, I grab a shower and throw on my Granite Creek Pants. Whether I'm headed to the store or out to dinner, these pants fit the bill perfectly.

    • Wish I had found these earlier!

    • These MK Granite Creek Pants are absolutely the best outdoor pants I have ever purchased. I spent 40 years in the textile manufacturing business and I know quality when I see it. The first thing I look for is the quality of the seams and the shrinkage of the garment to size and fit. After washing in warm water and drying for 15 minutes on medium heat, the length came from 32 to roughly 31 and the waist shrunk from a 38 to roughly 37. This made these pants for a perfect fit to my dimensions. The triple stitching on the seams is very unusual for trousers and they should last for many years. The important factor here is that the seam shrinkage very well and matched the overall fabric shrinkage with very little seam puckering. This is usually a serious problem with nylon products. These are absolutely wonderful pants and I will buy more. I purchased to wear when wet-wading when I fly fish. I expect that they will dry quickly.

    • Perfect Travel Pant
    • 5 out of 5 Bison
    • I’m a High School History Teacher by trade and like most teachers, I’ll admit having the summer off is a nice benefit for the hard work we do. In fact, there are some teachers who will say the three best things about teaching are June, July and August. That said, this summer was truly one of a kind. I crisscrossed the country and spent more nights away from home than I did sleeping in my own bed. The Mountain Khakis Granite Creek Pant accompanied me in all my travels. I found it to be the ideal travel pant. This past summer was one spent on both the East and West Coast. From traveling to Los Angeles to meet with my agent and production companies to Orlando and Miami for martial arts training and post-training relaxation and to the north woods of upstate New York on the Canadian border to teach 3 weeks of survival courses, I was always on the move. This summer was also spent traveling to Iceland, England and Scotland for a mix of relaxation and more martial arts seminars. No matter where I was, the MK Granite Creek Pants were always in tow. It didn’t matter what the weather was, hot or cold, muggy or dry, the pants were comfortable over a wide range of temps. They were very breathable and dried quickly when the heavens opened up. The MK Granite Creek Pants continue to look as good as the day I received them too. Despite rolling on the ground with them training Sayoc Kali, rambling through brambles and skooching (it is a technical term) over rocks on the way up Ben Nevis in Scotland, the pants never lost a stitch, developed a tear or were worn out. These pants were ideal for my outdoor pursuits in hiking, backpacking and athletic training. The synthetic fabric was never clammy or uncomfortable. The only way I could see stretching the versatility of these pants would be to purchase the convertible version next time. Aside from the more dramatic uses, the MK Granite Creek Pants became a “go to” pair to wear many days in transit and just lounging around airports. Even the stickiest of pastry frostings and gooiest of airport foods were easy to clean with nothing more than a wet paper towel. The quick drying qualities were once again appreciated. The pants looked good on the beach and in bars paired with my MK Old Faithful Sweater. The single cargo pocket was appreciated for quickly stashing documents while ditching my belt and shoes before the TSA agent waved me through the full body screener or toward a pat down. When you need a pant that will be worn in for potentially days on end, this is the pair to have! This summer is now over and I’m back to the day in and day out routine of teaching. While the crazy non-stop schedule of travel and days of living out of a suitcase are over, the adventures on the horizon each weekend and during my school breaks will keep me motivated until the next. Having spent this summer in a variety of climates, I know the MK Granite Creek Pants will certainly hold up to New England Fall, Winter and Spring. If I can make it through these seasons, I know the next is Summer and with that, hopefully another crazy season of travel!

    • Rainforest Perfect!
    • 5 out of 5 Bison
    • I spent a week in Alaska's Tongass National Forest - the world's second largest rain forest - and my GC convertible pants were the best piece of gear I had. Comfortable, water-resistant and breathable - important to me because it's fairly warm there in summer. They dry quickly and the pockets are very secure. They pack down very small and are great for travel.

    • 32 day, only two pairs of MKs
    • 5 out of 5 Bison
    • I just returned from a trip photographing the Ecuadorian Amazon. I've got two bags of dirty clothes sitting in front of my washing machine that are still as sweat soaked and stinky as the day I stuffed everything in there. Amongst everything are my two pairs of Granite Creek pants. I wore them most work days (everyday!). Lightweight but still able to take the abuse. The cargo pockets hold plenty of stuff and the zippers manage to keep whatever special things you've brought with you from being left on the jungle floor because you probably wouldn't find it if you started looking for it anyway. 32 days and two pairs of pants. Thanks MK!

    • Great Style, Durable, Swiss Army Knife Like
    • 5 out of 5 Bison
    • Heading overseas on an adventure, I wanted to limit the amount of clothing and yet wanted a pair of slacks that were comfortable on long travel, looked good, and had multiple pockets to store everything that I needed to carry including passports. The multiple zippered pockets "securely" kept the family passports as well as my wallet. The slacks held up all day....No wrinkles....And the slacks were quite comfortable during 12 hour travel days. The true test of these slacks was that my wife totally liked their style and fit on me.... This says a lot given that my wife is quite the fashion critic on the clothes I wear....

    • Perfect pants for a summer on
    • 5 out of 5 Bison
    • I am now a convert to guiding in long pants. I have tried other pants before but they could never hold up for an entire season in Hells Canyon working as a river guide. These pants are light enough to wear on those 100 plus days but durable enough to withstand the rigors of a long summer in Hells Canyon. You nailed it with these pants MK. Thanks.

    • Granite Creek pants are the best for ALL things
    • 5 out of 5 Bison
    • I got a pair of these a couple of years ago and they are by far my favorite pants. They dry really easily on a hot summer day and are incredibly durable. I have kayaked surfed in the ocean and taken multi day river trips and these are the best for all water activities where you don't want to wear shorts and they are UV 50+. I had them in the Outer Banks at Worlds and in the humidity at true beach they were awesome. I even started a trend of sorts because when pants tend to get wet they stretch and drag, so I order them one size short like a men's capri. Once I explain, they smile and tell me they are going to try it! *Once again, your stuff is the best
