 fabric

Ripstop

A type of fabric made from cotton or nylon that incorporates reinforced woven yarns in a crosshatch pattern throughout the garment that makes it resistant to tearing and ripping.

Canvas

Known for being durable, sturdy, and heavy-duty, canvas is a type of tight cotton weave that is desirable for its strength and durability.

Twill

Twill fabric is a type of fabric made by weaving two or more warp (vertical) threads over two or more weft (horizontal) threads, which creates a diagonal pattern. This type of technique yields fabric that is more resistant to wrinkling and maintain its shape better after being washed.

nylon

A synthetic fiber that is known for its strength and abrasion resistance, making it an excellent choice for outdoor use. Nylon clothing also has oleophilic properties, meaning that it does not absorb oil - great for keeping body odor at bay.

BAMBOO

Bamboo fabric contains many benefits, including anti-microbial properties, sweat absorbency and all-natural wicking, which helps keep you cool and dry. Plus, bamboo is a sustainable resource and a biodegradable textile material.

RECYCLED PLASTIC

Recycled polyester, often called rPet, is made from recycled plastic bottles.  Using recycled polyester reduces our dependence on petroleum as a source of raw materials, utilizes waste and reduces greenhouse gas emissions from manufacturing. The production of recycled polyester requires far fewer resources than that of new fibers.  Recycling plastics also helps decrease the amount of plastic waste that enters landfills!

Chambray

A lightweight woven cotton fabric consisting of white yarns in the weft and colored yarns lining the warp, giving the garment a denim-like appearance.

Dobby

A type of woven fabric characterized by small geometric patterns and extra texture in the cloth.

TWEED

Tweed is a heavy, wool-like fabric that is durable and has a soft, brushed feel.

SLUB TEXTURED FABRIC

Cotton fabric made using yarn with slight bumps. This type of fabric is usually thicker and more raised than the rest of the fabric, creating an irregular texture for visual interest.

SUMMIT FLEECE

A synthetic wool alternative that creates a comfortable layer of insulation by trapping air in the pockets between the fibers to keep your natural body heat close, ensuring maximum warmth.

MOLESKIN

Moleskin is a densely woven cotton fabric with a brushed surface that looks & feels like suede.  The dense fabric construction of Moleskin is highly resistant to wind. Moleskin is a durable fabric that was used in field clothing to offer protection from dense underbrush, briars and outdoor elements including colder temperatures and wind. Based on traditional workwear, moleskin is rugged yet soft.

Merino Wool

A type of wool that can absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture and still maintain its ability to insulate, keeping you dry, warm, and comfortable.

Halley Stevensons

The concept of waxed cotton was originally developed in the early 15th century by sailors who began treating flax sailcloth with fish oils and grease to waterproof their sails.  The material is strong and reliable, while the finish gains character over time, giving it that perfect vintage look of a well-worn and worked in coat that we all desire.

wax

Natural paraffin wax is used to make fabric more durable and water resistant.

CORDUROY

Corduroy is a twill weave fabric.  The threads are woven together in diagonal lines with thick vertical ribs. Corduroy is thick and durable.   How are corduroy wales measured?  The width of the wales defines the texture of the Corduroy. This is measured by the number of wales per square inch. The higher the wale count, the thinner the wale line.  18W has thin wale lines.  8W has thick wale lines.

ORGANIC COTTON

Organic cotton is sustainable cotton grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, artificial fertilizer and other toxic chemicals.

BRRR°

brrr° Triple Chill Effect technology has three unique cooling effects that combine to immediately and continually reduce the temperature of your skin.  Active Wicking: Moves moisture away for nonstop comfort. Cooling Minerals: Provides an immediate and continuous cooling effect.  Rapid Drying: Delivers a fresh and crisp experience.

Peached fabric

A fabric treatment that results in a slightly teased surface that makes the exterior of the garment soft, comfortable, and slightly fuzzy.

Brushed fabric

After weaving, the fabric is brushed to create a soft appearance and texture. Fibers are raised from loosely spun yards, obscuring the weave and giving the fabric a soft feel. Brushed cotton also helps trap air particles, improving insulation capacities of the fabric and increasing its warmth.

SPANDEX (STRETCH)

Spandex adds comfort and mobility to fabric without altering the look of the pant on-body. Incorporating stretch allows the garment to move with you, not against you.

DUCK DOWN

In duck down ratings, the first number represents the percentage of down, and the second number represents the percentage of feathers. The numbers are generally 70/30, 80/20, or 90/10.

FILL POWER

Fill power is a measure of volume of down within a jacket, calculated by measuring how many cubic inches an ounce of down creates at its maximum loft. We have products available in 500, 650 and 700 Fill Power.

RDS

The Responsible Down Standard (RDS) aims to ensure that down and feathers come from animals that have not been subjected to any unnecessary harm.

DUPONT™ SORONA

A type of plant-based insulation that is comparable to duck down. Features include natural softness and fluffiness, supreme warmth retention, and quick-dry abilities. Because DuPont™ Sorona is plant-based, it is considered a renewable resource.

 fabric treatment

DWR

DWR stands for Durable Water Repellency, a coating added to fabric to make it water resistant. When exposed to moisture, water beads up, then disperses, preventing surface moisture from accumulating on the fabric. DWR will create a barrier against water absorption, keeping you comfortable and dry.

UPF

UPF = Ultraviolet Protection Factor. UPF clothing is the rating system used to measure UV protection for clothes.  ASTM Standard for Sun Protective Clothing and Swimwear UPF.

UPF Rating 15-24: Good.
93.3-95.9% of UV radiation blocked

UPF Rating 25-39: Very good.
96.0-97.4% of UV radiation blocked

UPF Rating 40-50+: Excellent.
97.5-98+% of UV radiation blocked

WICKING

Moisture-wicking fabric has two jobs: quickly drawing(or wicking) moisture to the fabric’s outer surface, and drying rapidly so that your sweat doesn’t saturate the fabric. The result is that you’re more comfortable because your body can regulate its temperature efficiently and the fabric touching your skin has a dry, non-sticky feel.

Quick-dry

Quick-dry fabrics absorb moisture away from your body keeping you dry and comfortable.

EASY-CARE

Fabric that can be restored to its original appearance after laundering with minimal care. Easy Care fabric is virtually wrinkle- free when laundered properly.

YKK VISLON ZIPPER

VISLON® zippers are made of injected plastic elements, such as polyacetal resin. This construction makes them strong and practically weatherproof.

YKK METAL ZIPPER

YKK metal zippers are mainly made of brass, nickel or aluminum. They are known to withstand high strength and tough washing.
